Store caters to extreme sports fans

Dana Cockwill has opened a store that reflects his interest in extreme sports.

The shop, called Stellar Gear, opened for business on June 15 in The Centre mall on Eighth Street East.

The 680-square-foot store sells motocross, mixed martial arts and UFC clothing and accessories for men, women and youth.

"We sell lots of hats, belts, belt buckles, wallets, purses, backpacks, sunglasses, lanyards, keychains, beanies, stickers—a little bit of everything," said Cockwill, who owns the store with his wife, Danya Mousseau.

"We had a hat kiosk in the mall here for 41/2 years. We sold all these same brands there, and then with all the high demand for the clothing we decided to open up a clothing store."

Cockwill has since closed his hat kiosk, which was called Headcase. Considering he had operated the kiosk in The Centre, he said it made sense to him to open his store in the same shopping centre, where there's a lot of traffic.

Cockwill's independent store is the "first of many" he plans to open in Saskatoon and Saskatchewan.
