Enclosed Malls Still Popular with Shoppers

Even as the popularity of open-air "lifestyle centers" continues to grow and the small shops at enclosed shopping malls come and go, the enclosed malls remain viable retail hubs, experts say. "We are building more outdoor centers, but I think there's a myth that somehow that also means a decline of regional enclosed malls. Nothing could be further from the truth," says Les Morris, spokesman for Simon Property Group of Indianapolis, which owns enclosed malls, outlet centers, and community-lifestyle centers.
