Retailers: consumers are growing more conservative

Consumer spending across much of the New Orleans metro region dipped in December compared with the previous year, parish sales tax reports show.

Orleans Parish reported sales tax revenue fell 0.8 percent to $11.8 million for December 2007, down from $11.9 million in December 2006.

Jefferson Parish reported a steeper decline of 2.8 percent with $42.2 million in December revenues from the $43.4 million collected in 2006.
